Fitness Excuses And Myths

 

1. “I would like to work out and eat better more but I’m so busy with work, kids and other activities, I just can’t find the time.”  

 Yes, this is my passion but reality is I have three children and for 3.5 years my husband worked out of state when our children were in the heart of chauffeuring them around to many sporting activities.  So I understand how hard it can be.  But, what is more important than your health?  If you don’t take care of yourself, you aren’t able to function to your maximum potential in your other roles.  Your exercise should be at the top of your priority list, rather than the bottom.  Prioritizing ourselves is a challenge for most of us.  We have good intentions but life takes over. This is where finding an accountability partner comes in and finding an exercise routine fitting into your normal schedule not something you ADD to your list of stuff to do.  Find someone or something you can be accountable to because your success rate goes up to 93% with accountability.  Embrace Health has an online fitness program so working out (either cardio or strength training) can happen anywhere and anytime. It can be a 3 minute workout or 60 minutes depending on your time plus many other ideas on how to fit exercise into what you are already doing so it doesn't take up more time.  

2.  “I have good intentions during the day, but at the end of the day, I’m just too tired to workout or cook a healthy meal!” 

Take a moment to understand at the end of the day EVERYONE is tired!! Even the most fit person. NO ONE is exempt from this! The long term benefit of exercising even for a short 15 minutes or choosing healthy foods is SOOOO powerful! The difference between healthy person and unhealthy person is the healthy believes in prioritizing the healthy lifestyle and they reap the benefits of a better quality of life. Taking this moment to give your body what it NEEDS is like taking a moment to brush your teeth in the morning. If you don’t do it YOU will NOT see an immediate affect (besides the person next to you who might pass out from the stench) but your teeth won’t rot away until years of this bad habit. Your body is the same. It needs time before you will be handicapped with stroke, cancer or heart disease but it doesn’t mean it's NOT happening each day you choose to set aside exercise and eating healthy!  

3. “I want to be healthy but there are so many ideas of what is right and I don't know the right plan for me?”  

Nutrition and exercise can be confusing and they are constantly changing the rules about what you should do and when! So I have broken it down to make it real simple. Here it goes… 1. Fresh fruits and veggies are the healthiest and quickest fast food available. No prep, no mess (well maybe on your BODY if you eat like me), not expensive and can be found almost anywhere including gas stations. 2. Carbs and protein in the morning for ENERGY! Healthiest carb is fresh fruits and veggies! Lots of quick protein options available like: protein powders, frozen food in a bag (either meat or vegan), and peanut butter 3. Drink water EVERYDAY! 4. If you haven’t fried it, processed it or added fake food to it you can eat it AND 5. Portion control. This is all you need to know to get yourself started on a really healthy lifestyle! Practice these 5 steps everyday and you will be on the winning end of the scale

4. “I’ve never worked out or haven’t exercised in years.  I’m too old, overweight, out of shape (insert your own negative self-talk here) to start now.”                   

Everyone starts somewhere.  I worked for several years with a woman in her early eighties who had never worked out. She was having trouble walking and decided, better late than never. And she made significant progress. You can do it! Exercise is about mostly mindset. All of us can easily talk ourselves out of working out everyday with many excuses. The day you decide it is as important as getting dressed everyday is the day you will get your ENERGY back. If you don’t start taking care of yourself today, instead of being on your way to fitness you will be older, more overweight, more out of shape and more of whatever negative self-talk you just mentioned next week, month or year.
